River Terrain

This is river terrain from 'The Last Valley' which I have re-painted and flocked to match my own terrain. I have made some of my own river sections from scratch which I will show in future posts but this method saves a lot of time and effort.

The next two pictures show a section of river with a bridge from 'Snapdragon' (which I think no longer exists) built into it.

  1. Very nice . I do like the aesthetic side of figure gaming , and you do that so well . Now we want to see full of figures wading across!

  2. Those are really nice river sections. Something that I need to get on too. Really like the bridge section.

  5. They do look superb, but would love to see you do a 'how too' on river sections. Now as Dave says, let us see some of your fabulous miniatures charging across the bridge.

    1. At the time of taking pictures of the river sections I also took some pictures of my French Napoleonics crossing the bridge, so I will show these in a future post.

  6. Now why did I not think of doing that...
I picked up the last valley bridge at Reading, but it does not match the river sections not no why I have been putting up with it for so long :-)

  7. This is EXACTLY the end result I want when I get round to replacing my stuff. Very nicely done.

Now get on with the tutorial!

  8. Thanks Chaps.
    As for the tutorial....
The banks of the original river section from 'Last Valley' was repainted in dark chocolate housepaint (sandtex) just leaving the varnished water effect in its original state. Then drybrushed with midstone, caramel and then a very light drybrush of ivory housepaint. PVA glue the river bank (in patches as you want some of the earth that you have just painted to show through)and cover with flock. When the PVA is dry, drybrush the flock with a caramel or sand colour paint.

  10. These look splendid, Silver. Nice to see you're another of the fans of using household emulsion on your terrain!! Did you have any trouble with the river sections warping slightly? (I struggled a bit with this when I did mine)

    1. Thanks Sidney. I couldn't afford to paint large areas of terrain using model paints, so thank heavens for Household paint. I am lucky I haven't had any warping with these pieces but maybe it was due to them already being pre made by Last Valley before I repainted them.
